The beloved humorist and bestselling author returns with his most riotous collection of essays to date.
Starting with his trademark outdoorsman's wit, Patrick F. McManus's newest collection ponders the strange allure of the RV, the existential implications of being lost, the baffling tendency of animals to outsmart those who wish to hunt them, and the singular pleasure of doubling the size of every fish one doesn't actually catch.
Combining the curmudgeonly voice of Dave Barry and the innocent tone of Garrison Keillor, McManus brilliantly captures the everyday absurdities that comprise our existence. Alongside his humor, McManus's inimitable vision consistently evokes a childlike wonder at the natural world. Even if we are running low on food, the compass is broken, and we are fairly certain we have just spotted a family of Sasquatches frolicking in the treetops, The Bear in the Attic makes the outdoors seem wildly irresistible.

While the material presented in this audiobook is hilarious, the reader quality is sadly not up to the quality of previous McManus audiobooks. Unlike earlier books, it includes the entire text of the book itself. The person who reads the book reads it with little of the feeling
exhibited in the original Durkin-Hayes Audiobooks, featuring the amazing George S. Irving, which many McManus fans have
become familiar. In my opinion, it is also not up to the general audio quality of the last book, into the Twilight, Endlessly Grousing, which was recorded by Terry Beaver. Still, the material is good, even if the recording is sub-Irving-standard.
Highly recommended for the outdoor fan, or for the general McManus fan, such as myself.

The Bear in the Attic (Audible Audio Edition) Patrick F McManus Norman Dietz Macmillan Audio Books Reviews
My brother & I as contemporaries of McManus & growing up in a rural western mountain area, we can relate to these youthful escapades. Our environment & good parents made poverty a great advantage over those rich city kids without dirt clods, shovels & mischievous ingenuity. Neighbors checked on me due to my laughing so loud!
McManus is My go to guy for a laugh ,Change the names and location and I lived many of his stories ,The Bicycle Deer Hunt will make anyone a fan !
I have loved Patrick McManus for many years. I recently revisited his writings and found them as entertaining and enjoyable as I remembered. I had to stop reading them at night however as my tendency to burst into fits of laughter disturbed my husbands sleep.
Come on, it's Pat McManus.... If you read anything of his and you aren't belly laughing, check with your doctor to see if you're still alive. It's predictable because if you have read any Pat McManus, you know there are humorous situations abounding, as well as the McManus take on all creatures, human and otherwise.
It has been several years since Pat McManus published a book of new stories. His recent books have been either anthologies combining the material from other books, or in one case, a how-to book on humor writing development.
This book is more of the same amazing stories you've grown to know and love from the mind of Patrick McManus, most of which were originally featured in the pages of Outdoor Life magazine. It includes more stories originating in "Blight," Idaho, of Rancid Crabtree, Crazy Eddie Muldoon, (and Mr. Muldoon) Mrs. Swisher, and a bear that hibernates in the attic.
Highly recommended for the outdoor fan, or for the general McManus fan, such as myself.
I was very sick after a surgery and was laughing to much reading this book and others by McManus that I had to put it down at time for the tears in my eyes. So funny.
This book was purchased to help complete a collection of his works. I'm reading them in order of release, and didn't get to this one yet. However, this author has NEVER disappointed, so I'm confident that the trend will continue. I marked the "author's writing" as great, because EXCELLENT was not listed as an option.
